This list will be continually added to. However, after the initial posting, I'll be making separate postings with all the updates. Feel free to give me the links to any fics you feel that I should recommend. However, there are certain pairings I will not read, let alone recommend. Spuffy and Bangel are two of them. No offense to those that like them, they're just not my cup of meat [Gabrielle shout out!]. All links open in a new window, just a warning. Now, on with the list!

Again, if you have a story you think I'd love, feel free to leave a link here.

Authors
- Gabrielle [aka velvetwhip and satanslut]
- Most, if not all of her work can be found at The Velvet Vampire. Oh, what can I say about this author? She delivers angst and darkness like no one I know. She can make you hurt, ache and cry for the apparent victim in a piece, yet still feel sorry for the bad guy while still hating him. When she goes truly dark, she pulls no punches. Her happy endings are few, far between and, more often that not, twisted and painful. Not really all that happy at all, I guess. While Gabrielle writes mostly Willow/Angel[us], she has dipped into many other pairings, including Spike/Xander. Heck, I'd even read her Spike/Buffy, if she ever lost her mind and wrote it.
Sites
- Near Her Always
- This is a Willow-centric archive. It also has cross-over fics there, so you should have all your Willow needs met, fiction wise. Heck, some of my stuff is archived there, and I usually can't be bothered to put it anywhere! Go forth, read there and archive there. You won't regret it.
- Soulmates
- Or possibly 'Soulmates 'till the End of Time', or 'Redssoulmates'. I'm always confused by that one. What I'm not confused by is the fact that it's a good site. Granted, not every story on there is a gem, but there are enough buried in there to make it worth it all. You have Willow, Spike and Angel[us] in various combinations, as well as stories of them with other people. That, and it has a beautiful layout IMO.

summary: Through thick and thin, near and far, Angel and Fred will always be there for one another.
why: Because it made me all girly and mushy. Yes, this is my AtS OTP, what of it?

why: I love Darla as presented on the show, and this fic just enriches the character even further. - Deep into the Well [location: livejournal]

character: Fred, Angel, Spike
summary: An AU ficlet, from Angel season 5 where Angel and Spike decide to call Illyria back to the well.
why: Because I know that, sometimes, Fred's boys would sometimes put her above anything and everything else. It's not good or right, but it's love. - Glowy Green Things // now with bonus commentary [location: livejournal]

character: Dawn
summary: She couldn’t quite remember what her reasons were, but there’d been a lot of them.
why: It's post series Dawn fading away to what she originally was. It's not sudden, and it's not traumatic. I think that's what makes the most impact. And I don't hate Dawn in this one. In fact, I actually feel for her. And I put in the link to the commentary because I just had to. - Goodbye, Spike [location: livejournal]

character: Willow
rating: FRT

why: It'sinell, it's dark and slightly twisted, and it made me squee. Also,
velvetwhip approves, so you know it's good!
- The Weary World Rejoicing [location: personal site]
- author: annakovsky
rating: FRT
character: Xander, Spike, Anya
summary: Christmas, 2003, but in an AU where the events of "The Gift" went very differently.
why: It's an angsty accounting from Xander's POV that makes sense and ends on a slightly hopeful note. Well, as hopeful as it can be at the end of the world as we know it.
Angel[us]/Fred
- This Blue Night [location: livejournal]

rating: FRM
summary: Nice bit of fluff from S3
why: Again, it's probably the bath tub that did it for me. - Lull [location: archive of our own]

summary: Fred makes a deal.
why: It shows Angelus as he should be, shrewd and willing to work with others to get what he wanted. And it makes sense that it's Fred. - The Princess of Parallelograms [long version] [location: livejournal]

summary: Sometimes I think it's impossible to really translate physics for the non-physicist. Just like it's impossible for any one person to translate what they're thinking to another, even when they're working on the same problem. Sometimes I think it's impossible to explain reality.
why: I love the shifting of time and sometimes possibilities. The language is not flowery, but it conveys so much more than you'd expect. - Sleep [location: livejournal]

why: Dude... just... It's Angel and Fred, matter of fact, no fumbling or overt craziness. Just Angel and Fred and a bathtub. I think it's the bathtub that gets to me. - That White Rush [location: livejournal]

summary: Something kinda weird happens to Angel, but it leads to something kinda nice.
why: Come on! It's Angel with wings! Yes, it's schmoop, but it's ANGEL with WINGS! Also, he likes Fred touching his wings. - Tonight is Real [location: livejournal]
- author:
pepperlandgirl4
rating: FRC
summary: I guess it's set post-5.8 "Destiny." I don't have any real time line in mind though. Just some fluff. 995 words.
why: Though she describes it as fluff, it's more like soft angst. Angst, with a touch of hope. That, and it seems like it could have been. - Up at the Old Hotel [location: livejournal]
- author:
tesla321
rating: FRC
summary: Bet they did more than eat ice cream.
why: This one kinda takes you by surprise. It's not really angst, fluffy, romantic or any of that. It just... is. Again, I could so totally buy this happening in that time-frame.
Angel[us]/Spike/Willow
- Minas Troney in the Soup [location: livejournal]
- author:
velvetwhip
rating: FRT
summary: My mind randomly lit upon one of my very favorite books. These two seemingly disparate things merged in my brain and refused to be untangled. So I ripped chunks of the book, bleeding, from their context (including the title, which basically has nothing to do with the story, but which is a chapter title in the book) and jerry-rigged them into this little tale of Angel/Willow/Spike and life after NFA.
why: A break from Gabrielle's usual style, but it made me laugh hard. It's just so true to some of the funny episodes in the series, IMO. - Pity Us, We Wakeful [location: personal archive]
- author:
velvetwhip
rating: FRAO
summary: When Willow's addiction to magic destroys her relationship with Tara and results in grave injury to Dawn, Buffy decides that Willow's recovery will go better away from the Hellmouth.
why: Nobody is happy. Except maybe Anya and Xander to an extent. But, really, it's all angst, pain, and guilt delivered in a very IC manner.
Angel[us]/Willow
- Come Pouring Down Unified [location: personal archive]
- author:
velvetwhip
rating: FRAO
summary: In the aftermath of the final battle, Willow, Angel, Spike, and Buffy are faced with the challenge of what to do when the war is over.
why: It's a lovely, almost-fluffy fanfic that made me actually cheer for Spuffy. Let us take a moment to contemplate that. - Damaged Goods [location: livejournal]
- author:
velvetwhip
rating: FRM
summary: What do you do when the reward for fighting the good fight is betrayal and loss?
why: It's beautiful and darker. While they're happy, it's a difficult kind of happiness. - Escape Me Never [location: personal archive]
- author:
velvetwhip
rating: FRAO
summary: What if no one had been there to save her when Angelus grabbed Willow in the hallway?
why: It's dark, Angel's not such a selfless hero, and it shows realistic consequences to a fantastically horrific situation. - The Faintest Heartbeat [location: personal archive]
- author:
velvetwhip
rating: FRM
summary: The reflection in some mirrors can't be escaped.
why: It's got a darker and selfish Angel in it, just the way he should be written. Angel may be a good guy, but that doesn't mean he thinks nice thoughts or always acts nice. - Hell To Pay [location: personal archive]
- author:
velvetwhip
rating: FRAO
summary: Angel is back from Hell. And Willow finds out the hard way that having his soul doesn't make him a good guy.
why: You haven't read truly dark Angel/Willow until you've read this. It's going to probably turn your stomach and you'll definitely hate Angel for this one. If you're not sure you can handle dark, DO NOT read this one. I'm proud to say that I'm the reason she wrote and finished this bad boy. Lord is it ever evil. Angel gives Angelus some real competition for the most evil bastard title in this one. - Soulmates [location: personal archive]
- author:
velvetwhip
rating: FRM
summary: Willow finds Angel in the mansion shortly after his return from hell.
why: This story shows what can go wrong with having a soulmate. - The Secret [location: personal archive]
- author:
velvetwhip
rating: FRAO
summary: A darker take on the events of Lover's Walk.
why: The summary only really tells you where it starts out. This tale is mostly about what happens after all that. This shows a very obsessive/possessive/manipulative side of Soul!Angel. It makes you want to cry for Willow and at the same time, you don't really hate Angel all that much.
Angel[us]/Willow/Other
- The Clock Trilogy... Trilogy [The Faceless Clock] [Facing the Clock] [Stopping Time] [location: personal archive]
- author:
velvetwhip
rating: FRM
summary: Drusilla's plan to get her Daddy back goes horribly wrong.
why: The first two trilogies in this set are rewrite. Now, the originals are still good, IMO, but this writer has only gotten better with time. These stories pack even more of a punch, and no character is left unhurt by the end of the final trilogy. It's not a happy story, but it is a great one, IMO. The Faceless Clock Trilogy {original} and Facing the Clock Trilogy {original} - The Vampire Voyeur (rewrite) [location: personal archive]
- author:
velvetwhip
rating: FRAO
character/pairing: Angel/Willow/Xander
summary: Angel’s been dreaming about Willow and Xander. But when a pesky happiness clause means he can’t make his dreams come true, what’s a poor vampire to do?
why: Because Angel is a kinky and slightly manipulative vamp even good, just the way I like him. The presence of Xander didn't even bother me.
Anya/Willow
- First Time For Everything [location: livejournal]
- author:
snowpuppies
rating: FRM
summary: Dawn has a question for Anya. Anya may not know the answer, but she knows where to find it!
why: It should be a crack pairing, and it starts out reading almost like one [it's hard not to be a bit on the humorous side when going from Anya's POV]. However, you should be warned, it does sneak in some heart in there.
Buffy/Spike

Fred/Illyria
- Fred's Rambling Blues pt 1 / pt 2 [location: livejournal]
- author:
kats_meow
rating: FRM
summary: What if it was Spike's "shell" that Illyria usurped, and Fred who did the grieving and guiding?
why: I could feel Fred in this one, and, for some reason, love the picture of Spike as played by this old god.
Giles/Willow
- His or Hers? [location: livejournal]
- author:
darsynia
rating: FRT
character/pairing: Giles/Willow
summary: Giles wishes he had the courage to tell Willow something, but he doesn't want to have to call on Ripper to do it. Instead, he dreams up a different way to let her know...
why: While I usually don't find this pairing believable, I think the characters are kept true enough to themselves so that it makes you think that they would act like this... if that makes sense.
Spike/Tara
- If Wishes Were Horses [location: personal archive]
- author:
velvetwhip
rating: FRM
character/pairing: Spike/Tara, Spike/Willow
summary: Some things end before they ever begin.
why: Because this is one of the few believable Spike/Tara fics I've read. That, and I always love Gabrielle's Spike voice. Warning, though it starts out as Spike/Tara, it's mostly Spike/Willow.
Spike/Willow
- A Day Like a Gift [location: personal archive]
- author:
elenorlaura
rating: FRM
summary: Spillow holiday.
why: Though it was intended to be fluffy, it has some many underlying layers of angst and future pain that it causes you to ache just from reading it. It just hurts to read, in the best ways. - Beggar's Banquet [location: personal archive]
- author:
elenorlaura
rating: FRAO
summary: Season 7 post Killer in Me vaguely PWP
why: This is so very heart-wrenching and painful, yet so very lovely. I can't really say this is PWP, because the sex really seems to be there to show you how very messed up these two people really are at this point. - The Dollhouse [location: personal archive]
- author:
velvetwhip
rating: FRM
summary: Willow's life as Spike's captive.
why: This is like the early stages of Stockholm Syndrome brought to life. This clearly shows Willow slowly breaking down and Spike just doing what it is in his nature to do. I fell in love with this story from the very beginning and, shortly there after, started stalking the author's LJ. This is Spillow as it would have been if he managed to control the urge to kill her. - If Wishes Were Horses
- [see Spike/Tara]
- The Taste of Aunt Sophronia [location: livejournal]
- author:
velvetwhip
rating: FRM
summary: He’s good for what ails her.
why: This does a great job of showing how cruel Willow has it in her to be. I don't see a lot of that portrayed in well written fic, especially in a short fic.
